Kebab & Häagen-Dazs

November 16, 2009

How often do you see kebab shops selling Häagen-Dazs? The best part is, someone like me would actually go and buy one at 12am in the morning.

Wheel of Sheffield

November 16, 2009

For those who have left Sheffield, this is Wheel of Sheffield, our very own version of London Eye. This is for you, Karen :) Yes, I am very evil :P

Mid-Autumn Festival

October 16, 2009

Inspired by the full moon on Mid-Autumn Festival (3rd October 2009), I wrote this

“举头观月思前景,暗叹岁月不留情。。。岁月流逝,人已近三十”

Google translation:

“I raise my view they think of the prospects Antan years and unsparing. . . The passage of time, who is nearly 30.”

What the heck is Antan?

Better translation from Yahoo Babel Fish translation:

“Raises the head the view month to think of the prospect, sighs the years not to be forgiving darkly. . . Roll on, human already nearly 30.”

Actual meaning:

“Raising the head, I looked up to the moon and thought about my future.  I sighed at the passage of time … Time really flies and I am now nearly 30.”

Evolution…

October 13, 2009

9 years. Long enough for a small tree to grow into 4 metres tall. Sadly, that doesn’t apply to my height which has always been a sensitive issue to me. Made even worse by the taunting of my tall, slender sister.

Evolution of my appearance over the years, or rather the lack of it.

Besides putting on extra weight and changing of hair length, I think I remain as boring as 9 years ago. Sad life indeed.

Wednesday football

October 8, 2009

Ever since I started my postgraduate degree, I have been playing football regularly on every Wednesday. My supervisor didn’t really like the idea of me playing football on Wednesdays because it means I will have to cabut early at 5.20pm to get changed. Well, my supervisor still adopts some kind of Asian mentality that you can never leave work before your boss does. But well, I am always rebellious and I guess he doesn’t really care anymore as he is busy with his new position as Head of Department nowadays. Everytime he comes into our office, the room is already half empty. HAHA.

Anyway, over the years, I have played with all kind of players. Skilful, amateurish, competitive, lazy, tall, short, thin, fat (I fall into this category), umbrella killer (yes, you know who you are, Jesus amigo), etc. Of all the people, only Dave and Matt have been in the team longer than me. Well, too bad Matt has left for Glasgow. He was the one to book the pitch and always makes sure that we have fresh blue and red bibs to wear. Also, he is a runner. Just pump the ball to him and he will do all the hard work while you can just drool at the ladies having football training session at the next pitch.

Dave is just another typical, old-fashioned British hard tackler. If you value your legs, better don’t play play with him. He is always the centre of the defence but I think he is getting older and I have to command him sometimes :D Nah, he is quite young actually, in his 40s but his bald head adds a few decades to his real age.

Astroturf pitch at Goodwin Sport Centre.

That is the typical astroturf pitch that we play on. Took this picture today. The hockey players just finished their game and were resting at the right hand side. A few hot chicks but too shy to spy them with my camera. Sigh, regretted.

The Red (Thais + Rajiv) vs The Blue (non-Thais)

The Red (Thais + Rajiv) vs The Blue (non-Thais).

As usual, I started the game as ‘keeper again. Nowadays the Thai players play as Red and the rest just play as Blue. Red, hmm, Thaksin supporter? Hehe. You can hardly see anyone wearing bibs nowadays because the bibs have been seasoned with all the manly sweat. No one even bother to wash. Grrrkk.. I still remember I washed them every week with Bold lavender detergent before Ed took over. It is very confusing especially you have people bringing their own friends without telling us beforehand. The record being 18 players on the pitch. Hell, you ended up playing pinball where every single pass just hit someone’s leg.

The Thais are really good. So fast we are just chasing shadows most of the time. I think today we got thrashed again. But it was indeed a good workout… until it was ruined by weekly Grill Night with Rajiv at S1 Bar on West Street. The food is really bad over there. I was literally drinking the blood out of the medium-rare cooked steak, though I asked for a medium one. Always heard about the chefs adding extra flavour to zhng your food if you dare to complain.

Well, that is all about my 2nd blog entry. Will blog more about my recent partner in crime, Mr Rajiv Gomes in the future.  He is my football buddy, drinking buddy, pool buddy, Starbucks buddy, talk c0ck crap buddy, etc etc. I can’t believe we actually went to Common Room to play pool for 4 nights in a row.

New phase in life

October 5, 2009

Finally submitted my thesis on 30th September 2009. Made a vow to start my own blog once I submitted. OK, here we go.

I guess I would just start blogging about the place where I spent 1/3 of my life. Yes, been stuck in The University of Sheffield for the past 9 years. Unless you follow English football, Sheffield is north of London, east of Manchester.. in case you still don’t know, DAMN it man, how did you pass your geography test.

p/s: I am just a noob in blogging. Still learning it. Whatever comment you have, be it constructive or destructive, just post it. Also, all the pictures were taken from Google Images.
